Yucatán maintains push toward tourism reactivation while increasing air connectivity and opening new hotels

Mérida, Yucatán, July 27, 2020 — The relaunch of air routes in and out of the State of Yucatán by Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris and the opening of Mérida hotel the Wayam Mundo Imperial are two of the latest developments in the state tourism board’s activation of its three-phase Tourism Recovery Plan. The plan encompasses health care, preservation of the tourist offers – with more than 29 million Mexican pesos ($1.3 million U.S.) in loans granted to sector workers – and market reactivation.

The Wayam Mundo Imperial, located in Yucatán’s historical capital city, opened its doors July 23 with a new program called Imperial Clean, which implements the highest-quality cleaning and disinfection standards in order to maintain a protective environment, while ensuring tranquility for guests visiting and staying at the hotel. This luxurious boutique hotel boasts 52 suites, a swimming lane and a rooftop bar, among other state-of-the-art services, along with high-tech sophistication, impressive urban design and sustainable innovation, making it the ideal place to live a unique experience in the middle of a modern and exclusive environment.

Wayam Mundo Imperial is the first hotel of its kind in Yucatán state, as it is in the initial phase of obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, an international standard of recognition for building sustainability.

A 50% discount promotion on reservations made before Aug. 31 will be available due to its recent opening, with the promotion valid until January 2021. For more information, visit wayammundoimperial.com.

Volaris, the airline with the largest number of routes and seat numbers to Yucatán, will see a 109% increase in its operations in August. The carrier will connect the state directly with four destinations and will offer 10,000 seats with fares starting at 939 pesos (around $42 U.S.) in a single trip. In August, Volaris will reactivate its Mérida-Monterrey, Mérida-Guadalajara and Mérida-Tijuana routes — being the only airline to operate the latter route — connecting Yucatán with four domestic hubs, including Mexico City.

“In Yucatán, we are a benchmark in terms of security, biosecurity and sanitary certitude”, said Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Secretary of Tourism of Yucatán. “We have prepared ourselves with the best protocols to receive visitors when the time to travel is right, giving our visitors a safe and extraordinary experience so that they can enjoy this destination full of natural, cultural and gastronomic attractions, where thousands of years of history comes together with modernity.”

The state has a wide variety of attractions and scenarios that make it ideal for all tastes. Its picturesque cities, exquisite gastronomy, white-sand beaches and calm emerald green waters, tropical climate, imposing archaeological legacy and warmth of its people make Yucatán a renowned place of enjoyment, rest or adventure.

Among the most important recognitions that Yucatán has received for its good sanitary practices in the tourism industry, the following stand out: Certification of Good Sanitary Practices, approved in joint venture with the state of Quinana Roo; Safe Travels stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and, recently, the Punto Limpio designation announced by the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico. It should be noted that Yucatán has been recognized recently, with Mérida named one of the “Best Cities in Mexico” by Travel + Leisure magazine and Travel Lemming pronouncing Valladolid one of the nine top emerging travel destinations in North America, among many more. All this is coupled with Yucatán being home to one of the new Seven Wonders of the Modern World: the Temple of Kukulkán in Chichén Itzá.
